Welcome to my day on the Moda Country Fair Blog Hop!
This is totally giving my age away, but oh well. When Lissa told us we were doing a blog hop with a Country Fair theme, this is the first picture I thought of.
I grew up on a farm and my two older brothers always had 4-H cows they entered in the fair.
This was my lucky day, I got to be in the newspaper AND it was actually published on my birthday!
NO, I don't have cows now!
Milking cows growing up was not all that fun, although I do appreciate learning the value of hard work.
Yes, we do have two horses we ride occasionally.
My husband also grew up on a farm and they raise horses. They have big draft horses. So once a year I dress up in my cowgirl duds and go to our State Fair to help his family show their horses.
My job is to take pictures.
Sunny and Sam
My niece got a blue ribbon for competing in the wagon driving.
Another niece and nephew also got ribbons for driving the horses.
We had a great day looking at all the animals and displays, but the best part is always the food.
That brings me to the first question Lissa asked us to answer...
What is your favorite fair food?
Mine is Funnel Cake. Sooooo gooood! Wish I had one right now.
Next question: What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate!
M and M's, fudge, chocolate cream pie, brownies, chocolate pecan carmel apples...
...anything CHOCOLATE!
I could have had a Caramel Apple at the fair too, it was a tough choice,
but the funnel cake was plenty of sugar for one day.
Next question: What is on your bucket list?
I have never been on a cruise before, so when I was asked to teach a class on the Moda Cruise, of course I had to say yes! I wasn't sure a cruise would ever be crossed off my bucket list.
Come join us, it's not to late!
I have two Country Fair projects. This is the project that I talked about on the video. It is a pattern you can purchase on our website.
These rice bags are what every quilter needs. You can heat them in the microwave or put them in the freezer to sooth all those aching neck muscles you get from sitting at the sewing machine to long.
Great gift for all your quilting friends.
For my free project, I made Yo-Yo Push Pins.
They are so fast and easy.
You will need:
3 1/4" fabric circle
1 1/4" circle of cardboard
thumb tack - large or small
needle and thread
button for center
hot glue
Mark center of fabric circle with a pen.
Fold raw edge of circle under 1/4" to wrong side. Hand gather around the edge.
Hot glue thumb tack to center of cardboard as photo shows above. Poke tack point into wrong side of fabric at center dot. Pull gathering thread tight pulling fabric over cardboard circle. Knot.
Hot glue a button in the center of your yo-yo.
Make some yo-yo push pins for all your friends!
You could also use them on hand bags, on hair bows, as magnets, on gift tags,
on handmade cards, as a pin on your sweater or even glued on a frame (minus the tack in some instances).
The possibilities are endless.
You might even want to use them to embellish some
This is one of our new patterns hot off the press!
They are all available as of today.
Oh, and I have some RUBY fabric and Moda goodies to give a way!
(Thank you Moda)
Ruby will be coming to a store near you any day now.
To enter, leave a comment telling me what color of fabric you can't leave the store without.
As you might already know, I am a little partial to RED, Ruby Red.
I will announce the winners on September 26th.
Hope you are having a great time on the MODA Cowwwnty Fair Blog Hop!
(Cheesy I know, but I couldn't resist using this picture)
This is my husband at the Fair - now that is a big cow, I'll bet her name is Princess.
Happy Country Fair to you all.
Bonnie
I love love love RED but am starting to buy orange and brown fabric too. Oh, and mustard.
ReplyDeleteOh your Ruby is such a beauty! And I love funnel cakes too... been a LONG time since I've had one! Thanks for the tutorial, the inspiration, and the chance for some Ruby :) I can't leave the store without... Christmas fabric! Especially ones in traditional colors and the white on white. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! I love red also but also gravitate toward turquoise alot.
ReplyDeleteSo I love blue and I love green. When the two meet it's almost as good as chocolate and peanut butter. I can not resist a delicious fabric with blue and green together. I like other colors too, but it's hard to pass up on my favorite.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog today love all the pictures! Blue always ends up in my basket with red as a close second. Thanks for the tutorial it's great to have something so quick to whip up.
ReplyDeleteI usually can't leave the turquoises and lavenders behind--and the pinks, and well almost anything pretty! Lately I've bought a bunch of oranges and yellows.
ReplyDeleteI just love linens in all colors but particularly pastels.
ReplyDeleteRed, red, red!!! From pink to burgundy! I love your husband's cow. I have a black and white cow, that is a battery operated crumb catcher, complements of my granddaughter on my birthday. Aren't children's gifts great!!!
ReplyDeleteI cant leave the store without white...always white!
ReplyDeleteI just always look for the reds....then black is next on my list. Cute ruby slippers!
ReplyDeleteLove blues and greens! Love the eastern idaho state fair, I have pictures of my girls with that big cow too!
ReplyDeleteI have been attracted to red and aqua lately, Bliss started that obsession for me. Also liking pink and gray for the grandgirls too. I would love to win some of your new line Ruby, it is just as beautiful as Bliss.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of blue and red - I know I need other colors but just can't resist more of these two! Thanks for the tutorial - very very cute. My mum needs some of these pins, so I'm off to make some up :)
ReplyDeleteI love blues...from pale to rich deep blues to aquas to purple blues. Love Bliss and Ruby. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAny retro print color. But really, I don't know. I love all colors, so it just depends on what catches my fancy that particular day.

ReplyDeleteI always end up taking a piece of blue with me! Love ruby and thanks for the lovely post!
ReplyDeleteOh I love that Ruby fabric! My irresistible color is... jewel tones! All of them! Lately I've been picking up amethyst purples more than anything, but you see why the jewel Ruby appeals to me so much? I even love the name!
ReplyDeleteyI also love reds but...I always get some blue fabric anyway.Ruby is one of the most beautiful lines of fabric I've seen. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI am always drawn towards acid greens. Love the "Ruby" fabric line. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteA Moda cruise, I'm on my way to check it out. I'm loving pale grey as a neutral at the moment, but red and turquoise are pretty hard to resist
ReplyDeleteThank you for the project--and for the chance to win the prize! The colors I have a hard time leaving behind at the fabric store are blue and yellow--and one of the things on my bucket list is to make a blue and yellow quilt! By the way, love your blog!
ReplyDeleteCute project! anything red, white & blue. I'm a patriotic kind of gal.
ReplyDeleteIt might sound boring, but I tend to pick up nice tone on tone beiges and darker creams - I tend to use them for backgrounds and when I find one I like, I buy up! Also, redwork fabrics. bliss!
ReplyDeleteI love grey (color of the year isn't it?) ... and blue ... and pink. I'm a girl, sorry;-) So a little bit of ruby would do it for me!

Enjoyed the story of the county fair. Also like the yo yo push petals and ruby red slippers. I am a fan of your fabric and Ruby is no exception. It would be great to win some. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a good thing that Funnel Cake isn't available over here, cos it looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteAs I'm currnetly going through a redecorating phase at home, the one colour I can't leave the shop without buying is aqua. Dosen't matter what pattern or hue, I just know I can find a new home for it in an upcoming project.
Red is my favourite too ... love it with pink and white.
ReplyDeleteI always have to by something greeeeenish!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway, your fabrics are gorgeous!
I nearly always end up leaving the shop with another bit of green, blue or turquoise fabric. This annoys my darling daughter no end as she loves reds and purples.
ReplyDeleteIt used to be black and white, but now it's Aqua and Red. Your last 2 fabric lines have inspired me to paint my kitchen aqua and red and white. But I don't have any of your fabrics :( This Jelly roll would surely help me to make some accessories for my freshly painted kitchen. Thanks! And funnel cake ROCKS!
ReplyDeleteIt has to be aqua/duck-egg blue: am pleased to see some there in Ruby! Love those new patterns too, Bonnie!! x
ReplyDeleteI love red, and have lots of much fabric in that color variation, but I always use more. Love all your fair pics. Thanks for the neat pushpin hot-to.

ReplyDeleteI love the Ruby. I may have to start using reds more. I basically stick with Autumn colors. Thank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI always think red is my favorite color, but I sure do come home with a lot of teal blue!
ReplyDeletefor me it's not about what color i cannot leave without, its what designer. and it has always been you and camille's fabric since i fell in love with cotton blossoms. i have all of your lines so far, and for a girl who only buys as needed. (no extra stash built up) i have to be choosy about what i buy, but for projects i keep for myself, is only your lines. and that is the god's honest truth. i would love to win some ruby, i do not have that added yet to my very sad indeed looking stash :O} thanks bonnie!

Usually, the color that I tend to buy is blue-- but I also LOVE crimson red! And I would LOVE to be the winner of your Ruby prize!! My Grandmother's name was Ruby, so that would make winning even MORE special! :-) Thanks for sharing-- those slippers are adorable and would make the perfect Christmas "extra"! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove Bliss and Ruby!! I seem to be graviting toward red these days, although my latest purchase was orange sherbet color, with aqua--very different for me, but oh, so pretty!! Thanks for the great tutorial!!
ReplyDeleteI can't leave yellow, love yellow, but I would have to include purple and turquoise in there too.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time leaving purples behind. There's never a lot of them available so I like to keep a stash of them. Love your new line.
ReplyDeleteI always seem to leave the fabric store with something blue - which is odd since my favorite color is green - lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway!
I tend to find beige/brown neutrals hard to resist. I really like browns in quilts. Also a fan of draft horses, funnel cakes, fairs, and chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI love aqua. I think you guys have revolutionized red and aqua. I think of you whenever I see those two colors together. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI usually end up with reds and pinks. For a while it was greens. I'm still lacking in yellows, oranges, and purples however, I go in search of these options and come out with something completely opposite.
ReplyDeleteI always leave the quilt store with something blue or green. Love the pushpins, going to make for my daughter's pinborad. The pictures of the draft horses and the inflatable cow are wonderful, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletei am drawn to "under the sea" colors - blues, greens, some purples. but what do i buy? reds and pinks. =) that's what happens when you have two little girls...
ReplyDeleteI love red fabric. Nice reds in your Ruby fabric. Love Ruby the grays are a nice touch. Oh how cute are those Ruby Slippers.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say I am partial to purpley mauve colors, and every other color. Fabric colors just have certain feelings tied to them.
ReplyDeleteI've had a teal thing lately. If I see it at a shop, I just can't leave without buying some!
ReplyDeleteBlue fabric for me, although I'm now starting to be drawn to greens and reds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Country Fair post, Bonnie. Great memories. I'm partial to green! Seems like a hard color to find small green prints for grass, leaves, etc. so I'm always coming away with a green FQ or more. Thanks for the chance to win some Ruby - beautiful fabric.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Love the push pin idea! I am drawn to green fabrics-mossy, grassy greens. Love them with salmony reds. Thanks! Oh, and I love a caramel apple, too!
