My daughter Camille is having a contest on her blog and we are supposed to show the first quilt and the latest quilt we made so I decided to post about mine. I have been sewing since I was six so I don't really remember my first quilt, probably one for a barbie bed of some sort, and I don't have any pictures of all the ones I made before I started designing. The first quilt I designed is called Baskets and Berries. It debuted at Quilt Market in 2000. You may recognize the other face in the picture, yes it is Karla Eisenach. She is known for her many great designs most recently her Authentic fabric line from Moda. Her company is called Sweetwater now, but back in the day when she was Farmyard Creations we became friends. In the background is my first quilt I designed and have a picture of.
(Don't kill me Karla!)
As for my latest quilt, it was my Life's Journey quilt. It's easy, fast and fun and it really describes life, up and down. It certainly is a journey.
Here is another shot of it at Quilt Market in Pittsburgh.
As for what I learned, there is no wrong way to make a quilt, sure there are alot of things that make it go smoother, but as long as you love it, it's perfect.
Thanks for stopping by!
how fun to see you at market in 2000.
ReplyDeleteyour patterns are absolutely beautiful.
and camille definitely learned from one of the best.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, maybe it's just me, but your comments form doesn't have many options. It only allows me to comment as "Google Account". Might want to check that out - I know there are a lot of people who'll be hopping over here from your daughter's Simplify blog.

ReplyDeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteI am coming from Camille's blog! What beautiful work you do....and you have been doing it since you were 6? WOW! I have a six year old and would love for her to learn! I guess I need to learn before I can teach her. Did your Mama introduce you to quilting? Just curious....and in need of some help on getting started. It is pretty overwhelming. I made my first "real" quilt after entering blog world and coming across your daughter's blog this past year. That daughter of yours has totally inspired me. My quilts are not any where near your's or Camille's but I am learning and hope to be there someday. Blessings to you and welcome to blogging:)
Melissa

ReplyDeleteI love that you and Camille are into fabric design -- I still have a good amount of Cotton Blossoms left to make something. And I have the Dot to Dot pattern. Hmm that may be the perfect pattern for my Cotton Blossom stash. Never thought of it til now.
